The new Discord intents system broke a lot of things, so you need to make sure discord.py is updated and you instantiate your client with all intents: intents = discord.Intents.all () client = discord.Client (intents=intents) I think you actually have to enable it in the web dashboard. Guild Members is a privileged intent.

it's because they have an army of developers changing things for mainly small teams or individual developers working on bots. I think they should consider this when making changes, but it may not be possible to slow down the changes if they have to update the app itself and the api gets changed as a result
